Verdena are: Alberto, voice (25), Roberta, bass (24), Fidel, keyboards (24), Luca, drums (20). Even though they're young, this 4 piece has been playing together since 1992. With a wealth of experience under their belt at such a young age, Verdena has been blowing audiences away in their homeland in Italy and throughout Europe. The self titled debut album was released on September, 30th, 1999. The record sold 40.000 copies in Italy (a huge achievement for an indie band) and the first single which reached the upper part of the charts, got heavy rotation on MTV establishing Verdena as the new power force of Italian indie rock. Two EPs have been published since the first album release: VALVONAUTA and VIBA . The latter, included a very strong version of " Sunshine of your love " by Cream (long before revivalists got their 2 cents worth) The band then played the biggest open air summer festivals in Italy including the " Heineken Music Festival " with Hole and Marylin Manson. The " Independent Day Festival" with Deftones, Limp Bizkit, and the " Arezzo Wave Love Festival " with Henry Rollins on the same bill. Between September 1999 and the summer of 2000 Verdena played more than 100 gigs all over Italy and Switzerland still only just out of their teens. July 2001; Verdena plays in the Turin soccer stadium as support to U2, in their only exclusive show in Italy. September 2001: Solo Un Grande Sasso , the second album is released. The first single, " Spaceman", shot up in the Italian top ten. The album reaches #6 in the charts and stays top ten for three weeks and top forty for the following four weeks. The record sold 35.000 copies and was in the charts for a total of 12 weeks. After the release of the second album, Verdena published two more EPs in which they made cover of Thirteen Floor Elevator's " Reverberation " and Melvins " Creepy Smell " citing these two bands as a huge influence. " Il suicidio dei samurai " the new album, came out on January 31, 2004 and charted at # 7. Simultaneously, Verdena also released the " Luna " EP, which charted at # 2. History was made by having two records by Verdena in the top ten. This feat, established Verdena as the premier force in rock indie music in Italy. At the time, they were the only National band to have records in the top 10 sharing the charts with mainstream international artists such as Beyonce, the Darkness and other "commercial" acts. Following this achievement, a tour of 70 dates, split in 3 blocks, was sold out everywhere. It was then followed by a mini tour of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. They're currently working on a new album out January 2006 following a new tour of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. |
